About TOWHA
Our mission is to preserve, protect, restore, and exhibit objects and properties of historical, natural, and antiquarian interest from the
Town of Webb for the education and enjoyment of the public.
Our beginnings
Webb residents Betty Cole, George Sponable, and Pitt Smith began preserving local history in the late 1960s, collecting and storing artifacts and photographs in the basement of the Town of Webb Health Center. Exhibits were later displayed on the second floor of the old Fire Hall on Crosby Boulevard. In 1976, local businessman A. Richard Cohen deeded
his parents' homestead to the historical group and the Old Forge Library where, in 1977, retired TOW teacher Marion Holmes was appointed town historian, then elected President of the Historical Association. Under Holmes' leadership the Association was incorporated in 1988 as a non-profit dedicated to preserving and displaying the heritage of our region.
The Goodsell Museum
In 1995, TOWHA inherited the Robert Goodsell property on Main Street, and began operating The Goodsell Museum a beautiful, restored turn-of-the-century Victorian home and carriage house, centrally located in the village of Old Forge across from the post office.
The Goodsell Museum has six rooms of exhibits. A feature exhibit changes annually, and remaining exhibits are updated or rotated at whim. Our yearly attendance continues to grow, as does membership to our organization. We have an extensive and growing research library and we provide educational and recreational opportunities for all ages throughout the year. Admission is free and we are open year-round!
